October  |  gipa oktoberfest

Begun in 1810, Oktoberfest is a celebration of Germany’s Bavarian culture.  The festival takes place each year during the last two weeks of September into early October.  GIPA’s annual Oktoberfest event brings together each of our schools to celebrate German language and culture in our own way with a full day of fun, fantastic food and drinks, and musical performances from our students. The event is also our biggest fundraising activity of the year — 100% of the proceeds support the German language program at our schools!

Spring  |  GIPA Gala

The annual GIPA Gala is one of GIPA’s biggest fundraisers of the year.  It’s an opportunity for GIPA parents and teachers to meet and mingle in a fun, relaxed setting while supporting our outstanding German programs.  The Gala takes place in the spring and centers around a theme, which changes each year.  Guests enjoy delicious food and drinks, dancing, entertainment, and a silent auction full of items that have been generously donated by our parents and local businesses.  All proceeds from the event directly benefit our German program.

SPRING  |  GIPA Book

The GIPA Book is a beautiful photo album/memory book that commemorates our children’s years in the German program.  It is produced by a team of GIPA parent volunteers who do everything from photography, to ad sales, to graphic design, to writing and copy editing.

SPRING  |  Family fun day

Twice a year, in the fall and the spring, the GIPA Board welcomes all of its members to a general meeting to get an update on how the German program is doing.

We have traditionally coordinated the Spring General Meeting — at which we also elect our Executive Board officers for the next school year — to coincide with the German-American Social Club’s Family Fun Day and Maibaumfest (or, literally translated, Maypole Festival).  On that day, the GASC offers traditional German food and drinks for sale, rides and games for the kids, and they cap off the day with a traditional dance around the Maypole.
