GIPA VP Coral Reef Senior High School
On Friday, November 8, 2019 at Coral Reef Senior High School, our German program students participated in the third International Baccalaureate (IB) Gesprächskreis (loosely translated, a Gesprächkreis is a discussion group). This year’s third Gesprächskreis focused on a topic that has become central to public debate in Germany: climate policy.
GIPA was very pleased to welcome Dr. Markus Thiel to CRHS to present the topic to our students. Dr. Thiel is an associate professor in the Department of Politics and International Relations at Florida International University in Miami and director of the university’s Jean Monnet Center of Excellence.
Dr. Thiel gave the students an overview of Germany’s current environmental policy, looked at several different studies, and outlined the challenges that lie ahead. Dr. Thiel also shared some insights on what it means to study and work at FIU.
Thank you, Dr. Thiel!
