Thank you to everyone who attended the 2019 Fall General Meeting on Thursday, November 7, 2019.
For those of you who were unable to attend, we encourage you to look through the presentation that GIPA President Milli Metzker gave to those in attendance.
As you’ll see in the presentation, GIPA is tasked each year with raising enough money to help support the German teachers’ salaries as well as pay for classroom materials, supplies, and technology resources. In fact, over 75% of GIPA’s budget goes toward salaries.
The financial support that GIPA receives from the German government, while generous, does not come close to covering all of these expenses. (Germany’s financial support each year is determined by our students’ performance on the German language exams, specifically the A1 and A2 at Sunset and the DSD1 and DSD2 at GW Carver Middle and Coral Reef Senior High.)
To cover the shortfall, GIPA must fundraise with events, such as Oktoberfest, and with memberships. But when only some families with children in the program participate with a membership, this puts extra pressure on GIPA to find a way to come up with the necessary funds. And sometimes, we simply can’t. This is why your membership dollars are so vital to GIPA’s ability to help keep the German language program running.
On that note, we encourage you to stay informed, become a member, and get involved! Every little bit adds up to make a difference for our kids.
If you have any questions about the presentation, or would like to get involved with GIPA, please feel free to get in touch with Milli Metzker at firstname.lastname@example.org.
