November and December were busy months at Coral Reef High School!  Many thanks to Stephan Eberhagen, GIPA VP Coral Reef, for organizing these great activities for our students. GIPA is happy to provide students, especially those who just started studying German at CRHS, with a taste of typical German traditions.  Happy Holidays to all!

The fourth International Baccalaureate (IB) Gesprächskreis focused on an important topic of the German IB curriculum at CRHS: tradition as a part of our cultural identity.  CRHS was pleased to welcome Steffi Kordy, CEO of Cocoon Incentives, and a GIPA parent.  Ms. Kordy gave a comprehensive overview of typical German traditions, including background information, categories and comparison with other cultural areas.  She illustrated the role and importance of traditions in forming our cultural identity.  The students enjoyed her vivid presentation.  Thank you, Ms. Kordy!

“When Saint Nikolaus visits Germany on December 6th, what does he do?”  This was one of the questions students of the IB German program were asked in a quiz during Winterfest 2019 at CRHS.  The German Honor Society Board, supported by GIPA parents, successfully organized a “get-together” to provide a taste of German holiday traditions and typical German specialties for the winter season.

During the Winterfest, the students not only celebrated the upcoming holiday season but also recognized the new members of the German Honor Society.

To cap off the festivities, students of the German 1 and German 2 classes at CRHS put their shoes outside the (classroom) door the day before Saint Nikolaus Day, which is celebrated on December 6th. First, however, they had to clean their shoes and wait.

And finally, the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany made the season a little brighter for the students who passed last year’s German Deutsches Sprachdiplom (DSD) 2 exam with distinction (Level C1) by recognizing them with special certificates of excellence.  Congratulations to each of the students on their achievement!
