Yvonne supported GIPA for many years before officially joining the Board in 2016, where she is responsible for Government Relations. She was the leading force behind the expansion of the German International Studies Program to the Henry West Laboratory School in Coral Gables.
She grew up in West Africa and later moved to Hamburg, Germany where she completed her school education and her degree in International Shipping & Freight Forwarding.. She worked for some major shipping companies in Hamburg and was offered a position with Kuehne & Nagel in NY. She moved to NY in 1995. In 2001, her career took her to Miami. She presently works as Branch Manager for Green Worldwide Shipping, LLC.
Yvonne is married to Miguel Guerrero (a Cuban who grew up in NY). They have three children and live in Coral Gables. Their youngest child attends the German IS Program at Henry West Laboratory Elementary School. Yvonne also supports the Miami German Congregation and is a member of the German American Business Chamber.
Job Description: Government Relations
- Serve as a liaison between GIPA and the German Central Agency for Schools Abroad to protect the interests of the German Language Program in the participating schools
- Prepare Budget for school year and present annual figures of expenditures to ensure continuous financial support
- Track and submit student count in the Program and test scores achieved
- Assist with teacher recruitment and work permits/Visas
Network with the German Consulate and plan & ensure their presence and participation in special school events
