Monica is currently serving her second year as GIPA Treasurer. Prior to becoming the GIPA Treasurer in June 2016, Monica worked as a co-treasurer for the organization for one year.
In 2000, Monica earned a Bachelor in Business Administration with a focus on International Business & Logistics from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Cali, Colombia. In 2001, she received a Specialization in CRM Customer Relationship Management, also from Pontificia Universidad. Monica has been working in the private sector since 1998 when she first worked with Espindola Consultores S.A. an international business and import and export consulting firm as a Consulting Assistant. After that, she became the head of the Sales Administration Department for Polymer Group Inc. managing all Latin American import and export sales. In 2002, Monica moved with her family from Colombia to Miami, and in 2005 she started her own company serving as a procurement agent for different firms in Latin America.
Monica has two children in the German program, a fifth grader at Sunset Elementary School and a seventh grader at GW Carver Middle School.
Job Description: Treasurer
The Treasurer of GIPA is one of three Executive Board positions within the organization, along with the President and the Communications Manager. The Treasurer works closely with other members of the Management Committee to safeguard the organization’s finances.
In summary, the Treasurer is responsible for:
- General financial oversight
- Controlling, fundraising and sales
- Financial planning and budgeting
- Financial reporting
- Banking, book keeping and record keeping
In the interest of providing continuity, the Treasurer should expect to serve for a term of no less than 2 years.
