Email Michael

Michael is a rare “Muenchner”, a title in the German Brezel-State of Bavaria that can (unofficially) only be achieved if you as well as both of your parents were born in Munich. Michael was raised in Munich and graduated from the Technical University of Munich with a Masters in electrical and information technology engineering. He started his career at Siemens’ mobile communication unit first as a project manager in development and later in marketing. In 2000 Michael joined the IT firm PASS Consulting in Aschaffenburg near Frankfurt, where he created a new business center in the area of mobile data services. In a joint effort together with the then US based travel technology entity at PASS, Michael’s team created a mobile travel information service where you were able to look up flight information on a cellphone in 2001 – way before the iPhone.

In 2004 Michael became CEO of the North American affiliate of the PASS Group, and also became Global Head of the Business Unit Travel. Since then Michael has been instrumental in scaling PASS’s travel technology solutions while maintaining a culture of innovation within the company.

Michael has published numerous well-received articles on his travel industry blog and published his book “Value Creation in Travel Distribution”. He feels strongly about the need to open up the industry towards innovation and thus make it a better place for all players involved to work and do business with emphasis on the traveler.

Michael married his wife Heather, an American citizen from Connecticut, whom he met in 2005 in Miami. They both have two girls, Ava and Cady, who are fluent in English and German at Henry West Lab school. The family usually travels twice a year to Germany for hiking, enjoying the lakes near the Alps as well as skiing in the winter. The Strauss family also enjoys sports such as tennis and soccer.

Michael joined the board as VP of Henry West Lab in 2018. He likes to get things done.
