Matt Lines


Matt is currently serving in his second year as a member of the Board.  In 1996, he graduated from University of South Florida in Tampa with a major in Political Science and a minor in Technical Writing.  In 1999, Matt graduated, cum laude, from Florida State University, College of Law.  He passed the Florida Bar during the February 2000 testing session and began work at the private law firm of Volpe, Bajalia, Wickes & Rogerson, in Jacksonville, Florida.  In 2003, Matt moved his practice to Miami joining the then-mayor’s law firm, Diaz, O’Naughten and Borgognoni. In 2005, Matt was recruited to the law firm of Isicoff, Ragatz & Koenigsberg, where he was named a partner in 2007. Matt has a wide range of experience in civil litigation matters and regularly represents clients in the areas of Complex Commercial Litigation, Complex Hospital Litigation, Hospital Lien Matters, Consumer Protection Defense, Class Action Litigation and Restrictive Covenant Enforcement and Defense.

Matt grew up in Tallahassee, Florida and, as a young adult, participated in Boy Scouts earning the rank of Eagle.  Matt is married to his wife of 12 years, Mirela Gataiantu Lines. Mirela grew up in Romania, where she lived under the brutal dictator, Ceausescu, until he was overthrown by the Romanian people in 1989. The demonstrations that led to the Romanian Revolution started in her home city of Timisoara. After the Revolution, Mirela left Romania, stayed for a brief time in Austria and was granted asylum in the United States. She became a U.S. Citizen in 2005. Matt and Mirela have three daughters, Catalina, Angelina and Nicoleta. Catalina and Angelina both started the German IS program as first graders at Sunset Elementary School.

Job Description:  President
The President of GIPA is one of three Executive Board positions within the organization, along with the Communications Manager and the Treasurer.   The President is responsible for setting the vision for the organization, for organizing regular board meetings and for serving as the primary point of contact for all official business for GIPA. The president should establish working and professional relationships with MDCPS District officials, the principals at each member institution, the German Consulate, and the German Language Advisor. The president should supply leadership and direction for the other board members, and working with them should establish clear priorities for the organization yearly.  Where possible, the president should be present at school and public events to represent GIPA. The president should have a firm handle on the financial state of the organization and a good understanding of how the various components of the organization work and flow together – from membership to website and public communication to finances, the president should be able to understand and provide guidance to board members in each area.   The president should work closely with each school VP and operate together with them to support the particular initiatives and unique needs of each member school. In the interest of providing continuity, the president should expect to serve for a term of no less than three years.
